A year of support: 5 ways we support our community

This year, we’ve continued to put people and the planet first, expanding our efforts in several impactful ways. Here’s how we’ve been supporting our communities in 2024:

1. Charity and fundraising

This year has been a significant one for our charitable efforts. Not only did we donate 100 winter warm packs to West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service (FRS), but we also supported a variety of important causes through individual and company-wide initiatives. In April, Sales Apprentice Harry Smitten completed the London Marathon, raising £950 for the Gloucester City Mission Homeless Charity, helping provide meals and shelter for those in need. Additionally, we donated 88 Easter eggs to the Trussell Trust Coventry Food Bank and £130 from our Easter Wreath Making fundraiser to the Sea Cadets, FireFighter Charity, and Trussell Trust.

In November 2023, we contributed advent calendars to brighten the holiday season for local children and donated 4.6kg of food to Coventry Food Bank. Our commitment to helping others is unwavering, and we’re proud to give back to the communities we serve.

2. Environmental Initiatives

Sustainability remains a top priority at FireAngel.  Through our waste recycling programme at our Pace Sensors factory, we’ve reduced packaging by over 10 tonnes and transitioned to eco-friendly materials. In Madagascar, we’ve planted 250 trees to support global environmental rejuvenation.

We are also thrilled to announce that we have achieved BSI certification for our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, ensuring we minimise our environmental footprint and meet the highest industry standards.

3. Supporting Local Talent and Mental Health

In 2024, we expanded our employee assistance programme, and we’re continuing to train more staff in mental health first aid. Six of our employees have already been certified by St. John Ambulance, and we plan to certify even more to ensure mental health support is available to all our team members.

We’ve also focused on supporting young professionals with apprenticeships and we’re continuing to work closely with local recruitment partners to bring new talent into FireAngel.

4. Community Collaboration and Education

This year, we were proud to support a range of important initiatives that help keep people safe. We partnered with SGN, donating CO alarms that were gifted to Scout leaders at their annual Reunion event. Additionally, we participated in campaigns like the NFCC’s Prevention and Protection Conference and Child Safety Week, where we raised awareness about fire and carbon monoxide safety.

We had a great time supporting the Ward End West Midlands Fire Service (WMFRS) Fire Station’s 50th-anniversary celebration in July. Our contributions helped create a memorable community open day, complete with technical demonstrations and displays of historical firefighting equipment.

5. Enhancing the Workplace Experience

A positive, collaborative workspace is essential to employee wellbeing. In January, we created new social office spaces to foster a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere. These spaces feature a break-out area for lunch, a communal book swap, a tuck shop, and cosy houseplants to make the space feel more like home. We’ve also introduced complimentary toiletries for employees, ensuring that everyone can feel refreshed and ready to take on the day.

Our commitment to our community goes beyond the products we create. Whether through charity, sustainability, education, or mental health, we’re proud to support the people who make our world a better place.
